5 Things to do in Belper, Derbyshire

Belper DE56, UK
Belper is a Derbyshire Delight. Here are five places that you should explore on your next visit to the town.

Belper, Derbyshire, River Gardens Belper, Derbyshire Delights,

Here's a list of five lovely things to do in Belper, Derbyshire:

◦ Wyver Lane Nature Reserve

Just outside the town centre sits Wyver Lane nature reserve. This lovely little spot is a fantastic place to find some peace and quiet outside of Belper town itself (if you ignore the occasional train whizzing past along the outskirts of the nature reserve, that is!)

Wyver Lane is a great place for birdwatching and for spotting wildflowers too.

You can find a little more information on Wyver Lane Nature Reserve over on the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust website.

 ◦ Alport Heights

A firm favourite of mine, Alport Heights is a beautiful spot between Belper and Wirksworth. Well off the beaten track, you can be guaranteed a sense of serenity at this seriously beautiful spot.

On a clear day you can see up to nine counties, and can even spot parts of the West Midlands. You really are (almost) on top of the world up at Alport.

 ◦ Strutt's North Mill Museum

Unfortunately this great little museum is closing at the end of September 2022, but for now, you can still venture around and learn all about the history of the world-famous Belper Mill.

Stutt's North Mill Museum is open between 11am and 4pm. Tours only cost £5 per adult, while children are able to visit for free. It's definitely worth a visit before it closes down.

 ◦ Shopping at 1924

The 1924 building is a relatively new shopping arcade, brimming with some of the many independent businesses that make Belper great. There are plenty of treats to be had, and you won't find them anywhere else.

Did you know that Belper is the two-time winner of Britain's Best High Street?

 ◦ Belper River Gardens

Belper River Gardens is a beautiful spot right next to Belper Mill. There's a new tearooms, the bandstand (pictured) and the pretty gardens to wander around.

It's a great little gem tucked just outside the town centre.
