Peak Village, Rowsley - Visiting During Social Distancing

Peak Village is a shopping village in the Derbyshire Dales. What's it like to visit at the moment?

We recently visited Peak Village Designer Shopping Village in Rowsley, Derbyshire for the first time in a few years.

Set in glorious Derbyshire countryside just outside the Peak District, a couple of miles from Chatsworth House, it houses a range of designer outlets and smaller shops.

Although it was a weekday, it was very quiet, there were only a few cars in the car park and very few people walking around. It was soon clear that unfortunately many of the units were empty, the retailers had clearly suffered due to the difficult trading conditions of the last year or so. Some of the larger units were still occupied by some of the bigger chains like Cotton Traders and The Gift Company, but it felt like a ghost town.

Social distancing was easy under the circumstances, but The Works, being a smaller sized unit felt very cramped, being filled with as much stock as they could cram inside, with the result that we felt uncomfortable and cut short our visit.

The centre has recently been taken over by new owners, and with the lifting of Coronavirus restrictions coming in, hopefully the centre will see a revival and return to being the vibrant place we were familiar with in recent years.

Have you visited Peak Village recently?
